Gathered: Creative Trust
Intro
I started this practice last year, I like to call it Sunday gatherings. These are notes that I write throughout the week in an app on my phone. I started them because as a student, business owner, coach, mom and wife… at the end of the week I often wondered what I have completed and talked about.
Simply because with each to do, conversation or event, I’ve forgotten and easily moved on to the next thing. Creating these mini notes has been a way for me to reflect on conversations that have inspired me, recall lessons that I’ve gathered during my pilates classes or public health lectures. This space as offered a simple way to hold onto memories that brought me joy or made me curious throughout the week.
Each Sunday I’ll document a few and call the practice gathered, in hopes that it inspires you and creates a gentle reflection practice for myself.
Weekly Gathering
This week I’ve been thinking about my word of the year : TRUST
TRUST : a firm belief in the reliability, truth, ability, or strength of someone or something.
This season is I’m exploring the various layers of trust including, but not limited to, trusting myself, my process and the journey.
I’ve been asking myself what does trust look and feel like from a practical prespective? How do I hold on to this word throughout my days and weeks.
I often think about integration. Curious about how I hold my many interest in a way that keeps me connected, while enjoying and exploring everyday life.
This idea of creative trust surfaced from a cowriting session in GG Renee Hill inner story group. GG provided a poem which was followed by several questions. One that stood out to me was :
How would it feel to be creatively uninhibited and trust the shifts and realignments that this creates in your life and relationships?
This prompt felt perfect to write through, to answer a trust question I’ve been pondering in my morning pages. I began with how would it feel to be creatively uninhibited as this felt like an expansive prompt. One where I could envision living without creative inhibitions. I rattled off all the creative ideas that have surfaced recently and immediately thought how blessed am I that these ideas are choosing me.
Thinking to Elizabeth Gilbert’s book Big Magic I thought if the ideas are choosing me I should be collaborating or partnering with them.
When thinking about trust or creative trust in this context, I desire to put a practical approach to this process. Yet intuitively my body and writing say in order to relax into this journey of collaboration, I have to let go and show up.
This is not my normal creative process but seeing as though I’ve been trying to implement all my creative ideas all at once, so much so that I don’t document or leave myself room for shared expression. I’m toying with something new here.
